Dr Laurence Chu is a senior staff specialist in the Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at Nepean Hospital. In his previous role as the Head of Department, he was instrumental in the development of rehabilitation services across the local health district. He is also a visiting medical officer at other private hospitals in the Hawkesbury and Western Sydney area.
Dr Chu obtained his medical degree from the University of Sydney. He received further training in general medicine in Hong Kong and London and was a lecturer with the Faculty of Medicine at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He subsequently returned to Sydney for further specialist training in rehabilitation medicine.
His clinical interests include spasticity management and rehabilitation of complex neurological disorders, cancers and deconditioning. He has published in the areas of stroke rehabilitation and hospital acquired deconditioning.
Dr Chu is committed to supporting the training of young doctors. He is a HETI supervisor for junior medical officers and is an accredited supervisor and examiner with the Faculty of Rehabilitation Medicine.
