Frequently Asked Questions

How do I get a referral into a mental health program?

To participate in one of our mental health programs, you will need a referral from your treating GP or psychiatrist. Alternatively, you can self-refer. To find out more, contact our intake coordinator to discuss your confidential needs.

Are programs covered by private health insurance?

We can contact your health fund on your behalf and let you know what will be covered by your private health insurance fund.

Most programs are covered by private health insurance (once you have served the initial wait period and are up to date with your payments).

Mental health cover is also now available for upgrade and same-day use as an initiative from the Australian Government. We can explain these details and assist with any questions you may have.

What happens if I don’t have private health insurance?

If you don’t have private health insurance, you can opt to pay privately – if that is an option for you.

We can provide you with a quote in advance based on your program of interest and whether you will be a day patient or an inpatient, and you can opt to pay privately.

What happens once I enrol in a program?

When you are first referred to Matilda Nepean, our intake coordinator will arrange for you to have an initial consultation with one of our team psychologists.

During this appointment, the psychologist will discuss your history and current situation and their recommendations with you.

This may be enrolment in one of our day programs, or potentially staying with us in the hospital and receiving mental health support as an inpatient.
